Owen believes Spurs will bounce back against Chelsea

Michael Owen has predicted that Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham will return to winning ways against Chelsea on Thursday.

Spurs started the season strongly as they went eleven games unbeaten in the Premier League after their opening day defeat to Everton.

This form rose them to the top of the table but this run came to an end at the hands of Liverpool in December.

The Treble: Relegation attrition, Villa goals, Jose catastrophe

Jose Mourinho’s side have stuttered since then, as they have only won two of their next seven league games.

Tottenham have now lost back to back Premier League games having being beaten by Liverpool and Brighton in a matter of days.

This poor form has seen them drop down to sixth in the table. They will close in on the top four if they beat Chelsea on Thursday.

Owen told BetVictor, as cited by The Mirror, that he expects Spurs to edge past Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

“Chelsea visit Spurs with Thomas Tuchel’s first three points as Blues manager in the bag after Sunday’s 2-0 home win against Burnley.

“For Spurs, their Sunday wasn’t as successful as they went down 1-0 away to Brighton.

“Talk of winning the title will seem like a distant memory for Spurs’ fans, but I just wonder what Jose Mourinho has up his sleeve ahead of this one.

“It’ll be an interesting battle between the two managers, and even though Tottenham haven’t had the results they may have wanted recently, these are the types of matches where Jose Mourinho excels.

“With that in mind, I fancy Spurs to just edge it over their London rivals.”
