It was on this day in 1996 that Bristol City smashed nine goals past St Albans City in the FA Cup Second Round.
The winners of the Cup tie at Bristol City’s Ashton Gate would go into the hat for the Third Round where the Premier League teams joined the competition. Any hopes from the travelling St Albans fans had of a Cup upset were quashed in the first half as Bristol City raced into a five-goal lead by the interval.
The Isthmian Premier Division side were unable to stop The Robins onslaught on their goal and conceded a further four goals in the second half. They did score twice, thanks to Steve Clark and Jon Daly.
Bristol City striker Paul Agostino took the match ball home with him after scoring four goals, Matt Hewlett scored twice and Greg Goodridge, Martin Kuhl and Kevin Nugent completed the rout.
