It was on this day back in 1994 that one of the greatest Premier League matches was played.
Liverpool hosted champions Manchester United at Anfield in a fantastic match that was played in an incredible atmosphere. It was a six-goal thriller, with Liverpool coming back from three goals down to get a draw that seemed impossible only 24 minutes into the game.
Defender Steve Bruce scored with a header at the far post to give United the lead after only nine minutes. Ryan Giggs then doubled the visitors lead after 20 minutes with a beautiful chip over Bruce Grobbelaar before Dennis Irwin curled in a free-kick to make it 3-0 four minutes later.
Nigel Clough scored a fantastic first time shot from 30 yards within a minute of Irwin’s goal to make it 3-1. He then added a second goal on 38 minutes, racing through the heart of the United defence to fire low past Peter Schmeichel.
Liverpool continued to bombard the Manchester United goal throughout the second half and their efforts were rewarded in the 79th minute when defender Neil Ruddock scored headed in an equaliser.
Norwegian left-back Stig-Inge Bjornebye floated in a beautiful cross from the left wing and Ruddock leapt highest to power in an unstoppable header past Peter Schmeichel.
