Grimsby Town and Burnley played out an eleven goal thriller at Grimsby’s Blundell Park on this day back in 2002.
The match ended 6-5 to Grimsby in a First Division match and the hosts were 4-3 up at half time! It’s freak results like this that make fans go to every game, for fear that they might miss a goalfest like this!
Steve Kabba scored to give Grimsby the lead after only three minutes before Gareth Taylor equalised for the visitors with a close-range header after 22 minutes.
Taylor’s equaliser was the first of five goals in fifteen crazy minutes! Steve Livingstone gave Grimsby the lead before Ian Moore scored a great equaliser with a great turn and shot.
Steve Kabba restored Grimsby’s lead for a third time within seconds of the restart before Stuart Campbell added a fourth after 36 minutes. Burnley’s Robbie Blake then hit a goal in first half injury time to end the scoring in a pulsating first half.
Gareth Taylor added his second of the match less than five minutes into the second half before Alan Pouton scored from the spot to give the hosts the lead for the fourth time in the game!
Simon Ford netted Grimsby’s sixth of the game after 72 minutes before Robbie Blake scored a penalty after 83 minutes.
What a match!
