Robbie Fowler (or ‘God’ as Liverpool fans referred to him!) returned to Liverpool on this day in 2006, five years after leaving the club.
Rafael Benitez was the manager who brought Fowler back to the club, signing him on a free transfer from Manchester City.
Fowler had left the club in 2001 to join Leeds United, but Anfield was always his spiritual home. It was after all, the club where he made his name.
In all, Fowler scored 183 goals for Liverpool in 369 appearances. He scored nine hat-tricks in that time and won the Premier League PFA Player of the Year two seasons running (1995 and 1996).
Fowler made 26 appearances for England between 1996 and 2002, scoring seven goals for his country.
