Future World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore made his full England debut on this day back in 1962.
Moore’s debut came in a 4-0 victory away to Peru in a warm-up match ahead of the 1962 World Cup Finals in Chile. All four of England’s goals came in the first half, with Ron Flowers opening the scoring with a penalty after fifteen minutes. Jimmy Greaves then took centre stage and helped himself to a hat-trick.
In all, Bobby Moore would win 108 caps for England, with his last appearance coming in late 1973 in a 1-0 defeat at home to Italy. His crowning moment came in the 1966 World Cup Final when he captained England as they beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley to lift the biggest prize in football.
