Former England manager Fabio Capello was born on this say back in 1946.
His playing career lasted sixteen years, playing as a midfielder for SPAL, Roma, Juventus and AC Milan. Capello also won 32 caps for Italy and scored 8 goals for his country.
The Italian was a manager in three different countries as well as managing the England and Russia national teams.
Capello was much more successful as a club manager and England under-performed at two major competitions under his charge. Because of his successes in club management, Capello will however be considered as a great manager.
It was also on this day 24 years ago that England played out one of their greatest performances, beating Holland 4-1 at Euro ’96.
As I have already written a match report on this game in my Euro 96 Revisited series, I won’t be writing an article about it. If you want to read my article, you can click here.
