Guus Hiddink became Chelsea manager on this day back in 2009, replacing Luis Felipe Scolari in the Stamford Bridge hot seat.
The Dutchman stayed in charge until the end of the season, acting as an interim manager until a permanent manager could be found.
Hiddink had a very successful time at the club, losing only one of his 22 matches. Tottenham Hotspur were the only side to beat Hiddink’s Chelsea, beating them 1-0 at White Hart Lane in the league. In the other eleven games, Chelsea won ten games and the other ended in a goalless draw at home to Everton and finished the season in third place.
Juventus and Liverpool were knocked out in the Champions League before Barcelona knocked Chelsea out in the semi-finals on away goals.
Chelsea had already reached the Fifth Round by the time Hiddink joined the club. He guided them to the Final where they beat Everton in the final, coming from a goal down to win 2-1 to make a fairytale ending.
