Sunderland finally ended their year-long wait for a home win on this day back in 2017. Manager Chris Coleman oversaw a 1-0 victory over Fulham in a game in the Championship.
Attendances at the Stadium of Light nose-dived over the course of the year. More and more unoccupied red seats made up the background at home games where once ardent Mackem fans sat and cheered their boys on.
In fact, only 25,904 fans were present for the victory over Fulham, a little over half-full.
Sunderland’s last win in front of their home fans came 364 days earlier when they beat Watford in the Premier League. They had then gone 21 league and cup matches without a win before they got all three points against Fulham.
