Malcolm MacDonald put on a one-man show for England against Cyprus on this day in 1975, when he scored all five of England’s goals in a 5-0 win.
In scoring five goals, MacDonald equalled the record amount of goals scored by a single player in a game. His first was an easy header from a set-piece and second was a scuffed effort from close range.
MacDonald completed his goalscoring with a hat-trick of headers in the second half to complete a remarkable night for the Newcastle United striker.
MacDonald played 13 other appearances for England but only managed to score once more for his country.
