Youth team graduate Jason Crowe made his debut for Arsenal on this day back in 1997 and it would be a match that he will never forget.
Crowe came on in place of experienced right back Lee Dixon at the start of extra time in the League Cup Third Round tie at home to First Division Birmingham City.
With Arsenal fielding a second string eleven, the half an hour of extra time would provide Crowe with invaluable first team experience as well as seeing what it was like playing in front of a large crowd (27,097 to be precise).
Sadly for the young debutant, he would only stay on the field for all of 33 seconds after an over-exuberant tackle saw referee Uriah Rennie give him a red card!
The red card was the fastest given to an Arsenal player in the club’s history and that record remains to this day.
Arsenal went on and won the League and FA Cup Double that year and were knocked out of the League Cup in the semi final to eventual winners Chelsea.
Birmingham finished seventh in the First Division, narrowly missing out on the Play Offs.
