It was on this day in 1978 that Liverpool retained the European Cup, beating Brugge in the Final at Wembley Stadium.
A goal in the 64th minute goal from Kenny Dalglish was enough to secure victory. The Scot ran through the Brugge defence to get on the end of a wonderful through ball from Graeme Souness and chipped the ball delicately over the onrushing goalkeeper into the back of the net.
Liverpool beat Dynamo Dresden, Benfica and Borussia Monchengladbach to reach the Final, scoring sixteen goals in the process. It was the second of six European Cup wins, with their first coming the season before against Roma.
