Solskjaer ‘wants Lingard back’ at Man Utd after West Ham loan

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he ‘wants Jesse Lingard back’ at Man Utd once his West Ham loan ends.

The England international has been in great form since joining the Hammers in January.

He’s scored an impressive eight goals in nine league games and also looked good during the international break.

His performances have resulted in interest from the likes of Arsenal and Leicester City.

More surprisingly, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with his signature.

But Solskjaer has dampened those transfer rumours by insisting he wants Lingard to return to Old Trafford.

Speaking ahead of their clash with Granada, the manager said (via Daily Mail): “Jesse has been brilliant since he left. We could have kept him because he had a part to play.

“[He] never once caused me a problem and he deserved a chance to play more football.

“Of course we want him back. I hope he goes to the Euros.”

West Ham have been monitoring his situation ahead of a permanent move.

David Moyes says they will discuss a permanent deal ‘in the summer’, but the increasing popularity of Lingard may force them into a decision sooner.

A deal for Lingard could involve his England teammate Declan Rice, too.

The 22-year-old is one of Solskjaer’s top targets and is thought to be ‘interested in a move’ to Man Utd.

During the international break, he supposedly spoke with United’s Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw about the club.

Lingard will almost certainly be in high demand in the coming months after proving he’s still got it at the highest level.

Despite falling out of favour at Old Trafford, he’s looked great in a West Ham shirt.

He got off to a flier by scoring two goals in his debut against Aston Villa.

He’s followed up on that by bagging against Tottenham, Arsenal and Leicester in the Premier League.

Pundit Rio Ferdinand recently placed doubt on an Arsenal move for Lingard.

He said: “They wouldn’t have him there.

“The way he moonwalked off that pitch once, they wouldn’t have it. The fans would rip the place apart. He disrespected the Emirates in a way that hadn’t been seen.

“West Ham will have a fight to get him by the way because I think other teams are going to be like: ‘listen, we want him!’

“He’s not going to go to Arsenal over West Ham, obviously but there will be other teams. He ain’t going nowhere near Arsenal.”

Lingard is expected to appear in West Ham’s next match. They face Newcastle on Saturday April 17.
