Solskjaer: Man Utd ‘dominated’ in FA Cup win over West Ham

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his team ‘dominated’ in the 1-0 FA Cup win over West Ham.

The Red Devils broke the deadlock in extra-time through Scott McTominay after a tense 90 minutes.

They could have taken the lead through a Victor Lindelof header earlier in the match.

The defender saw his chance saved by Lukasz Fabianski, who got down smartly to palm the ball away.

Marcus Rashford also had a chance in the second half. A deflected Mason Greenwood cross found him at the back post in space.

Fabianski rushed forward and blocked the resultant shot.

United eventually scored in the 97th minute after Rashford placed the ball in McTominay’s path.

The onrushing midfielder then smashed it into the net.

Speaking after the victory, Solskjaer told BBC Sport: “I felt we dominated. I thought we were in complete control of the first half.

“In the second half it became more of a game. When it’s only 1-0 and we are wasteful, anything can happen to us – we knew that from the last game [Everton]. It’s just about finishing the game off but we’re through. We’re in the hat and that’s what we wanted.

“I think we got about 15 to 17 shots in the end but we need to be more clinical. We should’ve finished the game off earlier and finished in 90 minutes but sometimes it doesn’t happen.

“We needed to have a good result and a good feeling today because we were low after the Everton game. It’s hard to take but they were really focused and did the job.

“We want to challenge and we want to go to the final. That’s what we’re here at Man Utd for. Sometimes you’re lucky with draws in the cup – we haven’t been that lucky – but obviously we move another step closer to the final.”

The victory at Old Trafford means the Red Devils have reached their seventh successive FA Cup quarter-final.

The draw for the next round takes place on Thursday evening.
