Solskjaer: Man Utd keeper Henderson is ‘not the most patient guy’

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted keeper Dean Henderson is ‘not the most patient guy’ when it comes to first team opportunities.

Henderson aims to replace David De Gea as number one at Old Trafford in the near future.

He returned from a successful loan spell with Sheff Utd last summer and has since made ten appearances under Solskjaer.

The English keeper could start in United’s FA Cup match against West Ham tomorrow evening.

Speaking ahead of the game, Solskjaer said: “Dean has done very well when he’s got the chance and he’s matured. For me, he’s developed his game.

“I know he’s not played as many games as he would’ve done last season, but you see every game when he plays and in training his improvement, working hard on a couple of aspects that we’ve spoken about with him.

“I’ve been impressed with his attitude and workrate. Of course he’s, how to say… he’s not the most patient guy.

“He wants to play every game because he knows that he’ll perform well, so long may it continue because he’s improved since he’s come here.”

23-year-old Henderson is desperate to usurp De Gea and fulfil his dream of being United’s main keeper. That could also lead to him replacing Jordan Pickford as England number one.

He’s featured in three Premier League games this season, including a 3-2 victory over former club Sheff Utd in December.

De Gea has kept eight clean sheets in the league so far this term, helping United to second in the table.

He knows the pressure is always there and is resultantly improving his consistency.

Alongside Henderson, youngster Mason Greenwood looks set to start in the FA Cup.

Speaking about the forward, Solskjaer said: “I know we scored nine against Southampton but if you look at his performance, I thought his performance was top and he’s improved and matured immensely.

“He’s working with some of the top forwards in the country, of course. He’s learning off them and it’s exciting to see that he’s come over his blip and he’s playing really well.”
