David Moyes has revealed that he had “money to spend” to sign a new striker this window, but he decided to save it for the summer.
West Ham allowed £45m signing Sebastien Haller to join Ajax in January in a deal worth around £20m.
Moyes had hoped to sign a new forward this window to compete with Michail Antonio, but they were not able to get one in before the deadline.

Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri was believed to be one of their main targets. Yet the Hammers were told that he was not available.
Despite West Ham being low on options up front, they have made a really strong start to the season. They currently sit fifth in the Premier League with 35 points from their 21 outings.
Speaking during his latest press conference, as cited by the Daily Star, Moyes suggested that West Ham are looking to change their transfer policy:
“We had money to spend, we sold Seb earlier in the window so we had that, but we are trying to do things different at West Ham.
“We’re not going to follow the same path we have been following before. I chose to keep my money and hopefully we can start another rebuild come the summer time.
“Due to the pandemic you have to be responsible for the money you spend, you have to be mindful of what you are spending.
“In the past, the club spent £200m and people said it was great and we were going places – it didn’t work out that well.
“We want to add to what we have. But I am not going to sign players who have come in to appease people.
“We tried for a striker but the players we wanted weren’t available.”
