Messi secures MLS spell with Beckham’s Inter Miami with new Barca contract

Lionel Messi has had a change of heart regarding his Barcelona future, having all but agreed to a contract extension at the Camp Nou after attempting to force an exit last summer. However, this does not mean he will finish his career as a one-club man as his new deal will see him enjoy a spell in the MLS.

According to Sport, the Argentine icon has agreed to stay with the Blaugrana for another two seasons. However, as part of the rumored deal, he will be guaranteed a two-year stint in Major League Soccer after that time frame ends in order fulfill his ambition of playing in the United States.

Furthermore, the report says that La Pulga will join up with David Beckham’s side Inter Miami, having long been linked with a move to the Englishman’s recently-established franchise. There he would enjoy another two-year spell, possibly his final two years in club football, before returning to Barcelona as a global ambassador.

Given the Blaugrana’s financial crisis, the Spanish giants have asked their captain to take a pay cut, to which he accepted due to the long-term aspect of this arrangement. This means Leo will team up with countryman and close friend Sergio Aguero, who joined Koeman’s side on a Bosman transfer after his Man City contract came to an end.

This report, however, should be taken with a pinch of salt as nothing has been finalized yet. Despite this, the club have been making major strides in the transfer window in a bid to bolster their squad for next season, signing the likes of Aguero, Eric Garcia, and highly-rated fullback Emerson.
