Messi’s mouth-watering PSG salary leaked ahead of crucial Ligue 1 clash vs Lyon

Lionel Messi is gearing up for a crucial clash in Ligue 1, with PSG set to face bitter rivals Lyon this Sunday in a highly-anticipated Ligue 1 clash. However, despite having not even kicked a ball, the Argentine icon finds himself back in the headlines ahead of the weekend tie.

This is because the six-time Ballon d’Or winner’s salary at the Parc des Princes has been leaked and it entails some mouth-watering numbers. L’Equiqe are behind this revelation, with the French news outlet announcing that the former Barcelona superstar is set to earn a whopping $129M (€110M) net salary should he stay in Paris for the entire duration of his three-year agreement.

The current 2021/22 campaign, his debut season, will see him pocket $35M (€30M), with that number set to rise to $47M (€40M) per year for the following two seasons. Not only are these figures similar to what he would have earned had his agreement with Barcelona been accepted by La Liga, but this wage package is on par with Neymar’s, the club’s highest earner.

The aforementioned numbers are his wages only, with an additional $17.6M (€15M) cheque being written to him every season in loyalty bonus. Furthermore, PSG’s partnership with cryptocurrency website Crypto.com will also see La Pulga pocket an extra $35M (€30M) over the duration of his Les Parisiens deal. Despite joining on a free transfer, the 34-year-old did not receive a transfer bonus, a move that goes against the growing trend in Bosman transfers.

While L’Equipe’s claims might not be 100 percent correct due to the complex nature of modern-day football contracts, we can safely deduce that Messi is being handsomely paid at the Parc des Princes. All that’s left is for Leo to get off the mark with his new club, having made his debut in the 2-0 victory over Reims and his first start in the 1-1 draw with Club Brugge. Both of those outings ended in a quiet performance from the Argentina. Scoring against Lyon on Sunday would be an excellent venue for the newly-signed attacker.
