Mbappe doesn’t think he can be compared to the world’s best

Kylian Mbappe has said he doesn’t believe it’s possible to reach the level of ‘incomparable’ Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Frenchman has become one of the biggest names in world football since his arrival on the scene in 2015/16.

At the age of just 22 Mbappe has won the World Cup and been shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or three times.

Mbappe’s career has understandably earned him a place in the conversation for the world’s best player, but he doesn’t think that he can be as good as Messi and Ronaldo.

The PSG player spoke about it in an interview with Esquire, he said:

If you tell yourself that you’ll do better than them, it’s beyond ego or determination — it’s lack of awareness. Those players are incomparable. They have broken all laws of statistics. They have had 10 extraordinary years, 15.”

Mbappe scored 27 Ligue 1 goals this season and an impressive eight in the Champions League.

Many have begun to compare Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to Mbappe after his exceptional goal scoring record.

The World Cup winner didn’t seem to think much of it when asked, however, after he said:

It’s his second year, we’re getting to know him. It’s the start for him. I’m happy for him, for what he’s doing.” In reference to the Norwegian’s comparisons.

There seems to be a new age of competition between the two players after Mbappe seemingly mocked Haaland’s celebration following PSG’s Champions League win over Dortmund in 2020.

Many experts consider Mbappe to be on track to becoming the world’s best and with Euro 2020 around the corner there is another opportunity for him to add to his trophy cabinet and compete on the biggest stage.

Rumours have been swirling for a long time about a potential move to Real Madrid this summer.

The Madrid captain, Sergio Ramos, has had his say on the potential signing of Mbappe, but believes it would be more difficult than signing Haaland.

He said: “Haaland or Mbappe if I were a coach? I would like to have both of them, but a coach does not sign.

“Perhaps, due to the circumstances and the current situation, today I think it would be a little easier to sign Haaland.

“Mbappe is talked about as the Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi replacement, and the circumstances are more complicated.”
