Match-winner Greenwood ‘getting back in the zone’ for Man Utd

Man Utd match-winner Mason Greenwood says he’s ‘getting back in the zone’ for Man Utd after a tough start to the campaign.

The England international scored the winner as Man Utd beat Brighton 2-1 on Sunday.

The Red Devils went behind in the 13th minute as former striker Danny Welbeck beat Dean Henderson at the second time of asking.

They equalised in the second half as Marcus Rashford beat Robert Sanchez after being set up by Bruno Fernandes.

Greenwood then bagged the winner for Man Utd by heading home from close range.

In a breakthrough season last year, the 19-year-old scored 19 goals in all competitions.

He’s enjoyed less success this term, with just six goals, but his recent performance could start a strong season run-in.

Speaking after the match, Greenwood said: “I’m getting back into the zone, really – somewhere I wanted to be earlier in the season but it’s come now.

“I never had my head down, always concentrated, always worked off-scenes in training and I’m happy it’s coming out onto the pitch now.”

The forward has scored in back-to-back games for the first time this season, following his goal in the 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Leicester before the international break.

That form has seen Greenwood receive praise from manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He’s also been handed a long-term Man Utd contract, lasting until 2025.

The player added: “It was very important. Brighton played well, they defended well and obviously to get the winner means a lot to me.

“I didn’t really see after I headed it. I just saw after it went in the back of the net to see if it was my goal – I knew it was my goal.

“I’m happy to score a header. I’ve been working on them all season in training and I’m happy one came off.

“It was one of my weaknesses, I’d say. To be a striker, to be an attacker, you’ve got to do all things and heading was one area where I was weak on.

“But with practice and help from the coaching staff it’s obviously strengthened now and I’m bringing it out onto the pitch.”

Greenwood will likely feature in United’s next match. They travel to Granada in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.
