Manchester City made an approach to sign Harry Kane in January but saw their advances rebuffed by Daniel Levy, according to reports.
Earlier this week, Kane informed Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave the club with his ambitions of winning trophies yet to be fulfilled in North London.
City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all said to be considering a move for the 27-year-old, who has scored 165 Premier League goals for Spurs and racked up 33 assists.
According to the Daily Star, City’s interest in Kane stretches back to the January transfer window, when they had an offer rejected for the England striker.
Levy, the notoriously stubborn negotiator, refused to budge when it came to his prized asset, and so is unlikely to let Kane walk away this summer without a fight.
He will demand a fee of at least £100million for Kane’s services, with the marksman regarded as one of, if not the best in his position in world football.
While Kane would likely take any of the interested parties to the next level, the funds for the transfer will be difficult to source in the current climate, especially in City’s case with their newfound desire to operate on a sustainable basis.
However, with the situation now public and Kane unequivocal in his stance, Levy may be forced into accepting any offers that come his way. That would make Sunday’s trip to Leicester City Kane’s final ever game for the club.

Ryan Mason’s side can not become distracted from the task at hand, though, with ambitions of reaching the Europa League still alive.
Leicester, meanwhile, will be vying for a spot in the Champions League, meaning a heated contest is on the cards.
Mason said of Sunday’s clash: “Both teams are playing for something – obviously they’ve got their own ambitions and we have ours, so it’s going to be a game where both teams are going to have to be fully focused.
“I’m sure we both respect each other, we respect them as a football team and a football club, but our attention has to be on us and how we can win the game.
“Like I said, Wednesday [the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa] hurt – it did – just the manner in which it happened is tough to take but the beauty of football is we’ve got another game three or four days later so we have to pick ourselves up and be in the right frame of mind to hopefully go and get three points.”
