Chelsea, Man City in battle to land Bayern superstar for €60m

Chelsea and Manchester City have entered the race to sign Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski this summer, according to reports.

The Poland international has bagged an incredible 289 goals in 326 appearances during his time in Munich, winning six Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and a Champions League.

He is arguably the best striker in the world, scoring an amazing 36 goals in 26 Bundesliga matches this term as Bayern look set to lift another title.

And ESPN reckon Lewandowski could end up at Man City or Chelsea this summer with ‘the striker undecided on his future’.

The website claims City and the Blues have ’emerged as contenders’ and that ‘interested clubs would need to offer €60 million to start negotiations over a possible move’.

The report adds that Chelsea and City ‘are both in the market for a striker this summer’ and that ‘interest from the Premier League could tempt him into a final challenge elsewhere’.

Sergio Aguero is leaving City this summer and Pep Guardiola will be left with just Gabriel Jesus in the striking department, while Thomas Tuchel will be looking to boost Chelsea’s goal returns with Timo Werner having a tough first season at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that Paris Saint-Germain would be interested in Lewandowski, while City are looking at Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Chelsea are looking into the possibility of getting Aguero.

Back in late March, Paul Merson claimed that Kane was better than Lewandowski as the 33-year-old had “only ripped it up in Germany”.

“I would say he is already the most talented player in the England squad – more talented than Grealish and Foden even.

“He scores so many goals, and he passes the ball better than both of them as well.

“Robert Lewandowski won the award for the best player in the world last year. But he’s not as good as Harry Kane.

“He’s only ripped it up in Germany. Kane is doing it in the Premier League.

“And I can’t remember Lewandowski touching the ball at the last World Cup. But Kane won the Golden Boot.”
