Borussia Dortmund’s asking price for Jadon Sancho remains too high for Man Utd but the Red Devils could have some extra cash now, according to reports.
The Bundesliga side were reportedly demanding £108m for the England international last summer after he had a brilliant season at the Signal Iduna Park.
Man Utd were understood to be the main interested party at the time but refused to match their demands as the transfer saga now looks set to roll on to another window.
TRANSFER GOSSIP: Man United to appease fans with £90m move?
His numbers haven’t been quite as high this season as last but his 12 goals and 12 assists in all competitions is still impressive.
That form means the Red Devils are still interested and Sancho has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc, allowing him to leave if their asking price is met and the timing is right.
A report on Monday claimed that Dortmund will now accept offers between £74m and £78m for the winger with the pandemic forcing their hand.
And Eurosport agree that Dortmund will accept a reduced fee for Sancho but reckon they could still demand as much as £85m.
It is understood that Man Utd ‘intend to push forward with another pursuit’ but ‘his valuation remains higher than they had hoped’.
The report adds that the new £85m price tag ‘is closer to the fee United had in mind one year ago – but still more than they had hoped to pay this time around.’
The Red Devils know that Sancho wants to move this summer and they are ‘expected to open discussions again in an attempt to negotiate the fee’.
However, ‘their transfer plans have altered slightly’ now that Eric Bailly has signed a new deal at the club, with Man Utd changing their ‘stance’ on signing ‘a top level centre back this summer’.
Eurosport reveal that United are ‘comfortable’ with Bailly competing with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof for a starting berth and ‘could now cool their interest in Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and add a less experienced, cheaper defender instead’.
And the report reckons that would give them ‘more cash to inject into a deal for Sancho’ but makes it more likely Jesse Lingard – who has impressed on loan at West Ham – will leave in the summer.
