Man Utd have reportedly identified Sporting Lisbon forward Pedro Goncalves as a cheaper transfer target than Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Last week the Red Devils named former midfielder Darren Fletcher as their first ever technical director as part of a shake-up that saw John Murtough promoted to the role of football director.
That has already led to rumours that Man Utd have now agreed to pursue Erling Haaland and that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘may only be able to invest a significant sum on one area of their squad in the close season’.
OPINION: Fight, fight, fight! Is new Solskjaer deal fair reward or premature?
That led to another report on Tuesday which claimed Solskjaer was looking to sell up to four players to raise £60m worth of funds to add to his transfer budget of £80m.
Sancho is a name that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a couple of years with talk of a deal worth over £100m in the pipeline.
However, with the club finances being hit by the pandemic, Man Utd may have to look at alternatives to players who could cost huge sums.
And the Daily Telegraph claims that United’s ‘new recruitment team have been looking at Pedro Gonçalves in their options for right-wingers this summer.’
The report mentions that Sancho is likely to be ‘on the market at the end of the season’ if Dortmund don’t qualify for the Champions League with Goncalves ‘expected to attract bids this summer at a modest price’.
The Daily Telegraph claims the Red Devils have three targets for the upcoming window with the Premier League club looking to bring in ‘a centre-back as well as a right-winger and will look at a young central midfielder as one of the future’.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are getting ready for a tough test on Thursday when they take on AC Milan in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.
A late equaliser in a the first leg at Old Trafford boosted Milan’s chances of winning the tie with the scores level at 2-2 heading into the San Siro.
On the match, midfielder Scott McTominay said: “Obviously we had a lot of chances throughout the game but we know them really well, West Ham.
“We know they’re a tough team to play against and that’s why they’re so high up in the league.
“They’ve got amazing threats all over the pitch who are difficult to play against and for us to come out with three points is massive, to be fair. It is a really big result that one. We’re coming off the back of three games in a week so it’s been tough.
“We’ve got a longer period now until the next game, an extra day’s rest so, for us, get the feet up, rest really well and obviously go to Milan and give it absolutely everything we’ve got. The games after that, we’ll just take them whenever needs be.”
