Man Utd set to pounce as agents claim Ronaldo could ‘genuinely leave’

Cristiano Ronaldo could be on his way out of Juventus this summer with Man Utd keeping an eye on his situation, according to reports.

The Portugal international will go down as one of the best players to have ever played the game after winning five Ballon d’Or awards during his career.

Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for Man Utd before sealing his dream move to Real Madrid in 2009.

The 36-year-old is currently playing for Serie A side Juventus and has kept up his impressive career stats this season, bagging 29 goals in 33 league appearances.

Ronaldo was brought in to the Italian club to ultimately win the Champions League but they have so far failed to do that, with the Old Lady even missing out on winning the Serie A this campaign.

And now The Athletic claim that ‘agents connected to Juventus insist Cristiano Ronaldo could genuinely leave Italy this summer, in a situation that staff at Old Trafford are monitoring’.

Juventus are currently fifth in Serie A with one game left to try and finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Failure to do so would ‘trigger Ronaldo’s exit plans’ and even if they do manage to finish in the top four on the final day then ‘Ronaldo will consider his options’.

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be ‘in touch with his former United team-mate’ and ‘would not hesitate to sanction the re-signing of the 36-year-old if the financials stack up’.

Meanwhile, former Man Utd defender Gary Pallister thinks Ronaldo could return to Old Trafford in the summer.

Pallister told Compare.Bet: “I could see him coming back.

“He had a great time at Old Trafford, and coming back here would suit Cristiano with Juve struggling with Champions League qualification.

“He didn’t have issues here the first time round under the leadership of Sir Alex, and you can see that he still looks after himself and has that hunger.

“He still wants to compete at the top level and play Champions League football, and if he comes to United you have to find a place for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He’s a magnificent player and still has that hunger to prove himself as the best player that’s ever walked this planet.

“I think he’s on record as wanting to play until he’s 40 – sometimes when you’re bringing a player back to a club you worry about the hunger and desire if it’s something seen as more of a final payday.

“You see the way he talks and trains, he’s still keen and can be one of the best players in the world at United.”
