Man Utd boss Solskjaer reacts to Juve, Inter links to Mata

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is “not surprised” teams are interested in signing Juan Mata on a free transfer this summer amid links with Juventus and Inter Milan.

The Spaniard’s contract is set to expire in June and has only featured seven times in the Premier League this season, with three of those coming from the substitutes’ bench.

Mata, whose last appearance came in a 3-1 win over Newcastle United at the weekend, has scored 50 goals in 267 appearances in all competitions since moving to Old Trafford in 2016 from Chelsea for a reported £37.1m.

The Sun claimed on Wednesday that Italian sides Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma are all chasing World Cup winner’s signature as he falls further down the pecking order at Man utd.

On the reported interest, Solskjaer told journalists: “I’m not surprised that teams are interested in him.

“One, he is a very good footballer, and two, he is a fantastic human being.

“I am sure Juan has been able to speak to other clubs if he wanted to. We have a good dialogue.”

Meanwhile, Solskjaer reckons that Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford is “living proof” that dreams do come true at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer added: “He has had an incredible impact both on and off the pitch.

“He has matured into a proper young man. He knows what it takes to be a United player both on and off it. He is living proof of what we want to do at the club.”

Asked whether the Rashford’s example makes it easier for young talents, Solskjaer continued: “I don’t think it is just Marcus – it is through the history of Man United.

“We have proven many times we can grow our own homegrown talent – but the same with Rooney and Ronaldo. Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Matt Busby. We want to follow in their footsteps.”
