Solskjaer speaks out on Cavani, Van de Beek exit rumours

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has responded to rumours that both Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani will be leaving Manchester United in the summer.

eVan De Beek has struggled for game-time since joining United from Ajax in and fresh reports emerged this week about his happiness.

“There’s always speculation here,” Solskjaer said. “Donny has been focusing really hard, working really hard to get back available for the latter stages of the season so that’s our focus.”

Solskjaer also insists Cavani remains a key player both on and off the pitch due to his “experience” and “influence” on United’s younger squad members.

“Edinson has trained for a couple of days now and we’re still assessing him,” the United head coach added.

“When he’s in an around the club, his experience and influence on all the others is great.

“He always tries to help everyone and, of course, when it comes to a game, if he’s available, he speaks to them and the lads look to him.

“So hopefully there’s no reaction to the training sessions he’s had over the last few days and he’ll be available.”

Diogo Dalot meanwhile found himself struggling for minutes at Old Trafford last term and signed a season-long loan deal with Milan, who he is set to line up for against United on Thursday.

“I’ve been very pleased with his development this season,” Solskjaer said. “He’s our player and I’m looking forward to having him back.”

Ahead of the clash against Milan in the Europa League – one of two competitions United can still win this season – Solskjaer claimed trophies were “an ego thing for managers and clubs”.

On their match against Milan, he added: “We saw the game last week and how difficult its going to be. A physical side, loads of energy and good quality in the team. We need to perform at our best level to go through. We’ve never been too lucky with draws since I’ve been here!

“Tomorrow night is going to be about loads of things: quality, experience, game amnagement, a good start of course. I always enjoy being away from home in the second leg, that means so much more twhen you score a goal. ”
