Manchester United – along with a host of top European clubs – have been given a boost by Borussia Dortmund’s latest admission: that multiple player transfers will be ‘inevitable’ if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Dortmund are currently sixth in the Bundesliga, with the top four sides qualifying for Europe’s showcase competition.
United have been given fresh hope of landing top target Jadon Sancho in recent weeks, who has struggled to replicate his form from last season after his much-mooted move to Manchester fell through in the summer.

Sancho’s dip in form, along with Dortmund’s losses due to COVID, has reportedly led to the lowering of their asking price of the England international from €120m to €100m – a figure United were said to be previously willing to pay for Sancho.
WAZ (via Sport Witness) claim that Sancho is on a list of eight high-profile potential player sales that the German side have drawn up should they miss out on the Champions League places.
The report explains that Dortmund face losing €75m if they don’t qualify for UEFA’s top competition, on top of the €26m already lost through TV revenue.
Player transfers would then be ‘inevitable’ and Sancho is joined by Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji, Mahmoud Dahoud, Giovanni Reyna, Jude Bellingham, Raphael Guerreiro and Erling Haaland on a star-studded shortlist of potential departures.
Reyna, Bellingham, Guerreiro and Haaland are deemed ‘medium-term’ departures (not players they need to sell immediately), but the likes of Haaland could take the decision out of the club’s hands and force through a move.
United have been linked with Haaland, along with Chelsea and Man City, but it’s thought Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s focus remains on bringing Sancho to the club.
And Sky Sports Germany journalist Max Bielefeld says Sancho is 90% likely to leave Dortmund this summer, along with – so it seems – a host of top quality talent.
