Man Utd, Man City monitoring in-form Schalke striker Hoppe

Premier League sides Man Utd and Man City are monitoring the progress of Schalke starlet Matthew Hoppe, according to reports.

The 19-year-old striker has burst onto the scene in recent weeks, managing five goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances.

That form has seen plenty of interested clubs send scouts to watch his performances.

According to 90Min, Man Utd and Man City are tracking Hoppe ahead of a future move.

They see the American as a potential star up front.

Hoppe scored a hat-trick in Schalke’s 4-0 victory over Hoffenheim last month.

His exceptional performance helped to end the club’s 30-game winless run in the league. It also made Hoppe the first American to score a hat-trick in the Bundesliga.

The Manchester rivals aren’t the only clubs to be considering a move for the striker.

The report states that scouts from Liverpool and Tottenham have been sent to watch him this season.

Hoppe was sent in at the deep end for Schalke, who are bottom of the league after picking up just nine points.

His stunning displays in a sub-par team show that the player could be a Premier League hit.

It’s not yet clear how much it would cost to sign him.

However, Schalke will almost certainly be open to a sale soon.

The Covid-19 outbreak has sent the club into financial debt nearing £175 million.

They’re having to negotiate transfers for first team players in order to stay afloat.

Centre back Ozan Kabak is one prime example. The Turkish defender joined Liverpool in January on loan.

His deal includes a buy-out clause worth £18 million in the summer, should he impress manager Jurgen Klopp.

Kabak isn’t the only Schalke player who looks set for a permanent Premier League move this year.

Hoppe’s exciting development might secure him a big money move in the coming months.
