Man City plot two-year deal for Real Madrid star Ramos

Manchester City are lining up a sensational move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, according to reports.

The Spaniard’s contract situation has put plenty of Europe’s top clubs on red alert, including Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

He is refusing to budge on a reduced wage and could leave the Bernabeu for free this summer.

Five of the most costly contract renewal mistakes…

According to ESPN, City have now joined the race for Ramos and are planning to offer him a two-year deal.

City boss Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the centre-back’s leadership skills and vast experience.

Ramos has won the Champions League a remarkable four times with Real, and could help City to win it for the first time in 2021/22.

They reached the final of this year’s competition but were beaten by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in Porto.

The report states that City are preparing a contract tailored to Ramos’ situation. It will involve an initial two years, which could be extended to three if his fitness allows.

Alternatively, the 35-year-old could spend one final year with the club’s partners New York City FC in Major League Soccer.

Ramos’ wage would also vary depending on his appearances and form. Should he establish himself as a first-team regular alongside Ruben Dias in defence, then his weekly earnings would increase.

City are said to be monitoring the player’s situation closely and will pounce as soon as any announcement is made by Real.

More talks are planned between Ramos and Real president Florentino Perez next week.

The World Cup winner should have plenty of other options if City’s move falls through.

Rivals Manchester United are hoping to make him a short-term centre-back partner for Harry Maguire.

Other MLS franchises, including David Beckham’s Inter Miami, may also offer him a contract.

Ramos has made 671 appearances for Los Blancos since joining from Sevilla in 2005.

He’s won plenty of trophies in Spain, including five La Liga titles and four Super Cups.

The defender was hoping to bow out of international duty by captaining Spain at this summer’s Euros.

But poor fitness, as a result of his recent injury problems, meant he was omitted from Luis Enrique’s squad.
