Mails on ‘pathetic’ Liverpool as title handed to Man City

But…
Well it’s not really a big deal unless the scoreline is at least 10-0, apparently.

Congratulations Man City
That’s it! All the commentators and advertisers can shut up now. No more, “the most open season since Leicester won it” nonsense. It’s only 7 points, but the title is essentially wrapped up. Man U are too unreliable to present a proper challenge over the distance. Liverpool too off form. The rest of the chasing pack are just earnest triers without any real chance. City have it in the bag. Any defensive fragility they had last season and at the start of this one is now gone. Teams no longer know how to score against them, and their arsenal of weapons and ruthlessness means they will nearly always find a way to the net. It’s in the bag.

Congratulations Qatari princes and despots, et al. Your sports-washing project continues apace. Next challenge, the Champions League, before you get to bask in the glow of your very own desert/slavers World Cup. You’re clearly onto a winning formula.

Now to endure the disgusting spectacle of footy journos and commentators transitioning from desperate, hysterical hyping of a unspectacular season, to self-lubing every orifice in preparation for several months of psychopathic fawning over and courting their very own prince-charming, Pep.

That was pathetic from Liverpool
Did we not know how Brighton were planning to play? Surely it was quite obvious given we played the same match earlier this season. And about one hundred times against bottom six opposition this season.

Are we really suddenly so sterile against a low block? Is it VVD’s absence or Henderson/Fabinho’s absence from midfield? Given we have now dropped something like 16 points against the bottom six this season maybe we should just play Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips in defence if Henderson/Fabinho are so important to the midfield? We literally can’t do worse against these teams so risk more if it means we actually create chances or score goals.

Were Brighton even good? They didn’t really have to be. So many passes were short and the attacks were laboured. Every forward pass we made was either predictable or misplayed. Everything about the performance was pathetic really.

What a brilliant way to piss away the good will gained from the last two results. It’s funny how up until two months ago every team in Europe would fear coming to Anfield. Now somehow it’s the easiest place to play in England.

…Can we now start the Liverpool struggle against low blocks narrative?

Shock horror
I don’t know which is more surprising, Liverpool losing back to back home games in the league after going unbeaten at Anfield for 427 games or Jesse Lingard (Jlingzzzzz ffs) scoring a brace on his debut for West Ham after playing 427 minutes in 2 years at United.

Well ok, I guess Liverpool losing again wasn’t that surprising.

Just the one conclusion,

1. This year is definitely not going to be our year.
A Liverpool supporter who, up to last year, never seen us win the PL (I was going to put 2 conclusions and say the world has gone mad but then I looked at who is topping the league table and yeah I guess it’s business as usual)

Klopp the magician
Am I the only one to notice how Jurgen Klopp’s post-match interview instantly convinced Owen Hargreaves that their defeat was down to “mental fatigue”? Absolute sorcery. Greatest orator ever.
The Vocal Minority (The Van Dijk team)

What’s up with Villa?
Don’t know if it’s the Covid-enforced break or just a downturn in form but Villa have defiiately dropped down a gear or 2 these last few weeks. Lack of subs and flogging the same players hasn’t helped.

On the flip side, got to say that Moyes has done some job with West Ham. Excellent team and well worth the win even with some absolute shocking goalkeeping.

Onto the next.
Paul

The best of British
Yes, Liverpool seem knackered, mentally and physically, but this is about Brighton .

For the first time G. Potter currently tops my list of most all round capable, likely to still improve and intelligent British managers.

I think he´s ace and would love to see him in charge of Man City if Pep leaves or Barcelona when Xavi turns out to be average.
(I understand Dortmund is more likely ).

The other positions are a blend of begrudging respect more than personal preference …Brendan Rogers , Sean Dyche, Dean Smith make up my current top 4. David Moyes , Stevie G, Chris Wilder, Gareth Southgate . Then Scott Parker and Eddie Howe . I´d like to see Ed move up this list in the near future .

All in all , a pretty poor state of affairs considering British football manager history since Busby and Shankly, Paisley, Clough .

The old Magyar-Dutch intelligence is the benchmark / seed , is it not ?

Stick to the politics, Marcus
Just thought I’d say (even if it’s slightly late and not reactionary) Marcus Rashford should focus more on political issues and stopping childhood hunger rather than focusing on his football. He scores and his team wins 9-0 but children are still gonna be hungry. I mean come on, can’t be a world class professional footballer AND help other children born into poverty. Stop trying to do a job you’re well paid for and finally solve racism after the abuse you got on social media this week. Stick to the societal issues, if Man United win 8-0 without you it’s fine.
Annabelle (Seriously, he’s getting racist abuse for helping people… AND scoring goals. Mediawatch needs to be taken more seriously)
