‘I want to leave now’ – Torreira issues new Arsenal demand

Lucas Torreira has issued a new demand to Arsenal, saying that he ‘wants to join Boca Juniors now’.

The midfielder is hoping to secure a move back to South America to be with his family.

He’s been badly impacted by the death of his mother and wants to fulfil his father’s dream of playing in Argentina.

Manager Mikel Arteta recently responded to his first transfer plea, saying it was ‘not the right moment’ to discuss a move.

But Torreira has now fired back, declaring that he wants the transfer completed before the end of the campaign.

Speaking to ESPN (via Mirror), he said: “I want to go to Boca Juniors now. I am 25 years old and I know it’s a club that plays for great targets.

“I’d like to make the fans happy… but I know it’s not easy. Boca should reach an agreement with Arsenal for a one-year loan.”

Torreira has been on loan with Atletico Madrid in La Liga since the start of the season.

He’s fallen down the pecking order under Arteta and doesn’t look like getting back into the team.

Torreira was originally signed from Sampdoria for £26million back in 2018.

He’s made 89 appearances for the Gunners since then, scoring four goals.

However, he’s never reached his full potential when playing in England.

If Boca Juniors want to sign the player permanently, Arsenal will accept offers in the region of £15million.

That would see them take an £11million hit after just three years.

The Gunners will also consider loan offers for Torreira, but only for next season.

Boca Juniors would have to pay an initial €1million fee and a portion of his wages.

Arsenal are keen to see Torreira remain in England and would pay his wages in full if he joined a Premier League side on loan.

He isn’t the only player who has an uncertain future at the Emirates.

Recent reports state that it’s ‘unlikely’ David Luiz will be offered a contract extension.

Arteta is keen to see William Saliba, currently on loan in France, fight for a first team place instead.
