Olivier Giroud has reacted to his stunning winner against Atletico Madrid by saying that he ‘loves overhead kicks’.
The France international scored the only goal of the match as Chelsea gained an advantage in the Champions League.
The Blues will be aiming to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in seven years in the second leg on March 17.

Speaking after his goal, Giroud told BT Sport: “We know the importance of the away goal in European cups, that is why I was very pleased to help the team to win this game.
“We managed the game well and we were confident, but we obviously faced a great team and we were very, very committed.
“We knew their main strengths and I think we dealt with that. Now we just need to stay focused and finish the job at home.
“Obviously I didn’t know what to think about the goal because I just tried to focus on hitting the ball well.
“I love overhead kicks and I was pleased to see the ball hit the back of the net.
“To be honest I had no clue about being offside or not, Mason [Mount] told me he didn’t touch the ball so it came from the defender, but apparently I was not off. It is good for the team and good for me.”
The goal marked his 11th goal of the campaign after 22 matches. It was also his sixth in the Champions League after just five appearances.
Giroud continued: “We came here with strong intentions to win the game and play our game.
“We analysed their game well and knew how we could give them trouble offensively and I think we have been very strong at the back all together with defensive shape.
“We are very pleased, we had the better chances and I think it is a deserved win.”
Thomas Tuchel’s men are now unbeaten in eight games since he took charge in January.
Their next match is against Manchester United on Sunday at 16:30.
