Liverpool made ‘monstrous’ bid for defender before Kabak move

Liverpool reportedly had a “monstrous” bid for Merih Demiral rejected on deadline day.

The Reds signed Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak at the end of the transfer window to cope with the injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Kabak was the headline addition, with the 20-year-old joining in a £1million loan move, with the option of a permanent £18million deal at the end of the season.

But Sport Mediaset (via TEAMtalk) claim Liverpool were willing to spend far more on prime target and fellow Turkish centre-back Demiral.

The 22-year-old has only started six of Juventus’ first 19 games in Serie A this season as he attempts to force his way back into the side after a long-term injury lay-off.

The report claims Liverpool put a €57m offer on the table for Demiral, that “tempted” Juventus.

But the Serie A champions decided to turn the offer down and were unwilling to negotiate.
