Liverpool gone from impregnable to incredibly pregnable

Liverpool will be looking to get their season back on track when they take on Leicester City this weekend.

Mark Smith and Sarah Winterburn spoke at length about this upcoming fixture on the latest edition of the Big Weekend on YouTube.

Mark began by asking Sarah about her thoughts on Roy Keane’s comments following Liverpool’s 4-1 loss to Manchester City last weekend. The former Manchester United midfielder had dubbed the Reds ‘bad champions’ in the post-match analysis of the game.

Winty said: “Roy Keane will probably tell you he has no idea what the word ‘viral’ meant or what the words ‘click bait’ meant but he knows exactly what he’s doing. He knows that’s the headline on every website an hour after he’s said it and it absolutely was.

“Are they bad champions? I think that’s a bit inflammatory from Keane. I think what they have done is made a pretty bad job of defending the title. They won’t be the first to do that and they won’t be the last.

“They’ve had two good seasons which in any other era would have won them two titles. There’s a reason why winning three is so rare. There’s only been four clubs that have done it, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Huddersfield Town. It takes a rare and beautiful beast to win three in a row.

“I can’t remember who said that managing a club is like repairing a plane while it’s in the air – I think Liverpool are trying to do that. Parts are falling off it, that’s the problem here.

“We expected a drop off because of the defensive situation but what we didn’t expect that as soon as that Anfield record went, it would go spectacularly – and that anybody who trucked up at Anfield could now win.

“They’ve gone from being impregnable there to being pregnable. They’re an incredibly pregnable side right now. And anyone coming up against a pregnable side will fancy their chances and Leicester certainly will on Saturday.”
