Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has looked “lethargic” this season, according to former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashley Cole.
The defender joined Liverpool in 2004 and he made his first-team debut in 2016. His first appearance came in October 2016 in the EFL Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.
Alexander-Arnold eventually dislodged Nathaniel Clyne to become the Reds’ first-choice right-back. He has made 165 appearances for his boyhood club since his breakthrough.

The defender has played a key role in Liverpool’s success over the last couple of years. He has helped them win the Premier League and Champions League.
The Englishman has been a vital creating force for Jurgen Klopp’s side in recent years. He has 40 assists for the club since his debut.
This season has been tough for Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold, though. They currently sit seventh in the Premier League after 27 games.
Their defeat to Chelsea on Thursday was their fifth straight loss at Anfield. Speaking to Sky Sports, as cited by The Mirror, Cole suggested that the defender has been “exposed” more this season:
“I think he looked lethargic, he looks tired, to be honest, Trent. It’s difficult when the partnerships keep changing.
“I just feel he’s getting exposed a little bit more in one v one situations and for me, he has to improve in those situations if he wants to be a top, top, top player in a back four.”
