Liverpool seal £1m loan deal for Kabak; Schalke sign Mustafi

Liverpool have completed the signing of Ozan Kabak from Schalke on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Reports claim that the Reds have also included an option to buy Kabak for £18m, although some reports put that figure at €30m.

The Reds have already brought in Ben Davies from Preston and now the signing of Kabak significantly strengthens the centre of their defence.

The Reds have been so short of fit centre-backs that captain Jordan Henderson has been deployed there in recent weeks, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez suffering from long-term injuries.

And Liverpool announced the loan signing of Kabak late on deadline day, confirming that the Tukey international ‘will wear No.19’.

The Merseysiders say Kabak ‘completed the formalities of the switch in Germany and will travel to Merseyside later this week’.

Meanwhile, Schalke have announced the signing of Shkodran Mustafi as a replacement for Kabak, with the former Arsenal man joining on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

On the two deals Schalke’s Head of Sport and Communication Jochen Schneider said: “You have to look at this transfer from two perspectives. Ozan Kabak leaving Schalke 04 makes a lot of sense financially, especially due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

“On top of that, we believe that we’ve signed a very good centre-back in Shkodran Mustafi, who will fill the gap that Ozan will definitely leave.”
