Juventus worried Dybala will aim to join Man Utd on a free

Juventus are worried Paulo Dybala will run down his contract and join Man Utd for free, according to reports.

The Argentinian star’s contract expires in June 2022, sparking rumours of a Turin exit.

Dybala has fallen out with club chiefs in recent months and now wants to secure a major move.

Man Utd are rumoured to be among his preferred destinations, alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (via Goal), Juve fear Dybala will leave on a free once his contract expires.

Negotiations over a new deal have stalled as tensions rise between the 27-year-old and his employers.

The situation could force Juve into selling Dybala to Man Utd this summer, to avoid losing money on one of their most valuable assets.

Last season, Dybala was named as Serie A’s player of the season. He scored 11 goals and assisted 11 more to help Juve win their ninth straight league title.

That form saw him beat teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to the award, in addition to talented players such as Ciro Immobile and Romelu Lukaku.

However, Dybala has endured a torrid campaign this time around. He began the season with thigh problems and didn’t register a goal contribution until his seventh appearance, when he scored in a 3-1 win over Genoa.

He then picked up a significant knee injury which ruled him for several months.

Dybala’s injury woes have been worsened by off-pitch tensions. He was fined by police and reprimanded by Juve for breaking coronavirus restrictions at a party recently. Teammates Arthur Melo and Weston McKennie were also involved.

Dybala’s situation is an intriguing one. Juve will aim to sell him this summer, but his contract issue will massively reduce their bargaining power.

In August of last year, they valued him at over £76million (€90million). But they may be forced to almost halve that sum in order to offload the attacking midfielder.

Man Utd, as expected, will be watching the situation closely. They already have a host of talented players in his position, including Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek and Juan Mata.

If Mata leaves and van de Beek’s situation doesn’t improve, then signing Dybala may be a perfect solution for Old Trafford chiefs.
