Heskey picks out Liverpool star who must start against Chelsea

Emile Heskey has insisted that Liverpool star Curtis Jones should “definitely” start for his boyhood club against Chelsea.

Jones’ talents have also been recognised on an international stage. He has been capped at every youth level for England from U16s up to the U21s.

The midfielder made his senior debut for Liverpool in January 2019 against Wolves in the FA Cup. He went onto further establish himself in the first team last season, as he made 12 appearances across all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been hit by a lot of injuries this campaign. This has meant that Jones has been afforded more first team opportunities.

The Englishman has already played 29 times this season and he has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers.

The Reds host Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea on Thursday night. Speaking to the Rousing the Kop YouTube channel, Heskey suggested that Jones should start against the Blues:

“I would definitely put Curtis Jones in there because I like the way he creates stuff.

“I would definitely go for Curtis Jones, a young lad, a local lad knows what it means to be playing in these games.

“He’s driven, he wants to succeed and wants to win, gives you something different in there, someone who can drive with the ball – I’d 100% go with him.”
