Heroes – The Cowley Brothers
It certainly seems like the easy option, but these two should definitely be considered heroes in Lincoln City’s history.
Danny and Nicky Cowley both helped guide Lincoln to the FA Cup Quarter Finals in the 2016/17 season. What was more incredible was the fact that Lincoln were a non-league club at the time!
Their run included wins over League One side Oldham Athletic before victories over Championship sides Ipswich Town and Brighton and Hove Albion.
They were expected to lose at Premier League side Burnley in the Fifth Round, but came away with a famous 1-0 win. They lost 5-0 to Arsenal in the Quarter Final, who went on to win the trophy that season.
As well as becoming the first non-league side to reach the final eight of the oldest cup competition in the world for over a hundred years, the Cowley Brothers also guided City to the Conference league title in the same season.
Villains – Grimsby Town
Lincoln’s arch-rivals Grimsby Town have to be listed as their ‘Vilains’. The hatred runs deep and despite there being more local teams who could be considered local rivals, it is Grimsby who Lincoln fans most want to beat.
The two ground are approximately 40 miles apart and Grimsby have the much better record in the ‘Lincolnshire Derby’ with 44 wins compared to City’s 30.
