Elliott ‘100 percent ready’ for Liverpool first team after loan

Harvey Elliott says he’s ‘100 percent confident’ about competing for a starting place at Liverpool next term.

The young winger has had a great season on loan with Blackburn Rovers, registering 17 goal contributions in 40 appearances.

Despite being just 18 years old, he’s been a star player in the Championship – a league which is known to be tough for young players.

OPINION: Should Man Utd stick or twist on a mediocre midfield hand?

Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham in July 2019 and is expecting to feature under Jurgen Klopp in 2021/22.

When asked if he is ready to take the next step, Elliott told the Counter Attack Podcast: “Definitely. I had a few appearances here and there last season and took this loan with Blackburn, which I personally thought would be the best thing for me.

“I had a chat with Jurgen as well and he said for me to go and express myself, and that the move would be the best thing for my career and for me to get the games and experience. He said he’d support me 100 percent.

“Next season I am going to go back thinking I can get in the team. I have had this experience and feel ready, and have 50 appearances under my belt, which is a lot for a teenager.

“I feel 100 percent confident I can go in and challenge. I’m looking forward to the fight and showing to people I am a different player and ready to play when called upon.

“I will need to work hard and train well and if I get my chance, I have to take it.”

The Englishman made his Blackburn debut in a 3-1 defeat to Watford towards the start of the season. In just his second game, he got a goal and an assist as they eased past Coventry 4-0.

His most recent goal came in a 2-1 victory over struggling Derby last month.

Elliott could become a Liverpool starter in the future if Mo Salah gets a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

He became one of the most exciting young players in the country during his time with Fulham and has continued that progress this season.

It will be intriguing to see how often he is trusted with a starting place next term.
