Kane urged to leave Tottenham this summer by Keane and Cole

Former Premier League duo Roy Keane and Ashley Cole have told Harry Kane to leave Tottenham this summer if he wants to win trophies.

Kane scored in England’s 2-0 victory over Albania on Sunday with Mason Mount scoring the other as the Three Lions made it two wins out of two in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

England face Poland at Wembley on Wednesday with the match being billed as Kane vs Robert Lewandowski as two of the best strikers in world football – but there is one key difference between the two players: trophies.

OPINION: Rating the players: Albania 0-2 England

Lewandowski has won numerous Bundesliga titles and German Cups, as well as the Champions League, while boyhood Spurs fan Kane is yet to lift his first piece of silverware.

Kane has reached the final of the Champions League and League Cup but Spurs have fallen short at the final hurdle on both occasions.

Tottenham are through to the League Cup final this season – with Premier League leaders Manchester City awaiting them in the final – while Spurs find themselves sixth in the league, three points off the top four.

And when asked if it would be a hard decision for Kane to leave Tottenham, ex-Manchester United captain Keane said: “It is but he’s also a professional. If you’re a top player you want to win trophies.

“It’s a big few months coming up for Tottenham, the League Cup final, can they get in the top four? Huge question marks.

“Will that influence him? He’s obviously under contract, Tottenham will have a lot to say about it. But if you’re in his shoes and it comes to the summer, I think the guy has to move on to really win the big prizes. He’s not going to do it at Tottenham.”

Fellow pundit Cole agreed, he added: “Every time I hear him speak or see him on the TV and he addresses the situation about the contract he seems happy but under the surface I can tell he wants to win as well.

“Most players want to win, they want to compete for trophies, they want to finish their career with as many top games, big games, big accolades. Will he do that at Tottenham? I don’t think so. It’s going to be interesting for him, whether he stays or goes, but it’s going to be a very, very big decision for him.”
