Haaland has his ‘heart in England’ amid Man City, Chelsea links

Erling Haaland will have a desire to play in England to follow in the footsteps of his father, according to the player’s former coach Gunnar Halle.

Haaland was born in Leeds during the time his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, played for Leeds United. His father represented Norway and he also played for Manchester City and Nottm Forest.

The 20-year-old started his career in Norway with Byrne and Molde. This was before he made the switch to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.

OPINION: Man City trump Man United if you are Erling Haaland…

The striker immediately showed off his goalscoring prowess for the Austrian outfit. He scored 29 goals for them from just 27 outings.

Towards the end of 2019, it became clear that Haaland would be leaving Salzburg. Manchester United were heavily interested in him but he opted to join Borussia Dortmund for just €20m during the winter window in 2020.

With the German outfit, he has established himself as one of the best strikers in world football.

Haaland has 49 goals from 51 outings in all competitions for Dortmund. He is likely to leave this summer and the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all said to be interested in him.

Halle has told the Daily Star that Haaland is most likely to move to the Premier League next:

“It’s difficult to say with the Spanish and English interest there are so many things now that have to be considered with his agent and everything and the money, of course, will be quite a lot.

“But of course I think a little bit of his heart will be in England because his dad was playing there with Leeds and City but also his connection with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so I think his dad will maybe play a part.

“Erling will be thinking about where he can have more success in the way he is playing and not the money, he will get a lot of money anywhere.

“I think they will see where he can play his best football and where the team and manager can help him. So it’s difficult to say at this moment.”
