France chief urges Mbappe to stay at PSG amid Liverpool links

French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet has revealed his hopes of seeing Kylian Mbappe stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

The skilful forward has been linked with a Liverpool move in recent months after reportedly deciding not to renew his contract at the Parc des Princes.

He could secure a Premier League move once his deal expires in June 2022, although Real Madrid might have something to say about that.

Le Graet has reacted to the transfer rumours by saying ‘it is better to stay’ with PSG.

He told French source Le Parisien (via Goal): “I want him to stay in France, and at PSG. He is young, and PSG still have many challenges to meet.

“It does not concern me directly, but players of this level, I prefer that they are with us.

“My preference is very clear, and in my opinion, it is even better to stay.”

Mbappe had another stunning campaign in 2020/21, registering 27 goals in just 31 Ligue 1 appearances.

He also notched eight in 10 Champions League games. However, PSG’s season has been disappointing by their own high standards as they were beaten to the league title by Lille.

They were also defeated in the Champions League last four by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Mbappe was named on the bench for the 2-0 second leg defeat after picking up an injury. Had he played, the contest could have gone very differently.

Mbappe has scored an impressive 132 goals in 171 games for the French giants since joining from Monaco in July 2018.

He’s already repaid pretty much all of the £130million fee they paid for him, although his ultimate goal will be to bring the Champions League trophy back to France.

The 22-year-old was asked about his future after picking up the Ligue 1 Player of the Season award.

He said: “What I want is to win, and for there to be a solid project around me. It is the most important. I eat and live football and the sports project is very important.

“We will discuss with the club and we will see what will happen. Either way, I’ve always been happy here. I understand that everyone is waiting for my answer. We’ll do things in order.”
