‘Who can afford him?’ – Ex-Aston Villa star thinks Grealish will stay

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor says he believes Jack Grealish will stay at the club this summer.

Grealish has had an exceptional season in the Premier League scoring scoring six goals and assisting ten to earn himself a nomination for the Official Premier League Player of the Season, despite being injured for long periods.

The Villa midfielder has been attracting a lot of interest from ‘The Big Six’ over the past two seasons with both Manchester City and Manchester United rumoured to be considering a move for the Villa Captain this summer.

Agbonlahor told TalkSPORT that Villa will want over £100m for their star man and doesn’t think that anyone will be willing to pay the asking price.

He said: “Jack Grealish will stay, is what I’m hearing, and Villa will invest as well,

“Who can afford him? If Aston Villa were going to sell him they’d want over £100m.”

The former Villa goal scorer cited COVID-19 as one of the main reasons that the Manchester clubs wouldn’t be able to afford to buy Grealish.

He said: “Man City and Man United are the only ones that would go for him in the Premier League, but with COVID are these teams going to want to pay £100m or £130m?

“I’m not too sure.”

Grealish started for England in their victory over Austria on Wednesday night and impressed many fans with his performance.

The tricky midfielder could add even more money on to his valuation this summer if he continues to impress on the big stage during the Euros.

Villa will do all they can to keep hold of their main man, but with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak stating his club’s intent in the market this summer it’s still a possibility that the England international could make the switch.

The chairman spoke through City’s official channels recently and said: “Having won the league, it is not the time to sit back and be content,

“That would be your biggest mistake. This is the time to send a strong message that there is no contentment, that you are not satisfied with just winning the league.”

He also confirmed that the club still have the funds to make the transfers they want to make after he said:

“Our financial balance sheet is strong and we will invest wisely and do what we need to do”
