Ferdinand picks out Solskjaer’s ‘biggest concern’ at Man Utd

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s “biggest concern” at Man Utd is whether he can trust Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof to handle a forward “one v one on the halfway line”.

There are plenty of rumours circulating about who the Red Devils will sign in the summer market with a centre-back now understood to be at the top of their shopping list.

Some pundits and fans have been pushing for the club to sign a new partner for Maguire, although the England international has also come in for criticism this season.

Ferdinand has previously pleaded with Man Utd to sign a new centre-back with pace to compliment Maguire in defence and he believes it is more crucial than ever that they can a deal done.

“I think that’s Ole’s biggest concern – can he leave Maguire one v one on the halfway line? Or Lindelof?” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.

“It’s proven that you can’t as that’s not their main attributes.

“Harry Maguire is good at a lot of other things but that area, that’s one of his weak points.”

Ferdinand also thinks Maguire’s team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka needs to improve his playing out from the back, he added: “I think Wan-Bissaka can be coached into that, I think he’s going to have to do a lot of work on the training ground on the ball and with the ball.

“His strongest point, we saw against City, his ideal scenario is to be left one v one against the wide man. There’s nobody better around than him.”

Meanwhile, Ian Wright thinks Man Utd should still try and pursue a deal for Jadon Sancho and take Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland with him.

“I’d still try and get Sancho as well to go with him [Haaland],” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“I envisage that if you can have a Man United side that had Pogba, Fernandes, Haaland and Sancho… you know what I mean?

“Then you start to feel that somewhere along the line you’re going to get some creativity there.

“My problem with Man United when I watch them is that they don’t keep the ball well enough in that last third where the creativity is needed to open a West Ham up, move defenders around, a link man like the forward who can hold it, keep it there on the edge of the box, play it around to someone like Fernandes who can slip it into little spaces.

“Then all of a sudden you can counter attack or you can play through them. That’s what they need, any of those two.

“I don’t think Sancho is something that they should just give up on because he’s creative as well, he goes past people.”
