‘It’s out of order!’ – Ferdinand in staunch defence of Liverpool star

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has launched a strong defence of Liverpool star Mo Salah, who isn’t “getting the respect he deserves”.

Despite the Reds’ shortcoming this season, Salah has maintained his goalscoring touch and currently leads the Premier League top scorers chart alongside Harry Kane.

The Egyptian has scored 31 goals and provided five assists for his team-mates in 45 appearances in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp‘s side this campaign.

Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both left Salah out of their team of the season when asked on Monday Night Football.

And Ferdinand can’t believe he isn’t getting in “people’s team of the season” after scoring so many goals again this term.

“He’s vying for top goalscorer again in this league and he’s not in people’s team of the season, I do not get it,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.

“He ain’t getting the respect he deserves.  Mohamed Salah is a top, top, top, top player who is churning out numbers year in, year out. It’s become the norm to see him at the top of the charts now. It’s out of order!”

And Liverpool boss Klopp reacted in a similar manner during the week when asked about Salah’s omission from Neville and Carragher’s sides.

Klopp told reporters: “Yes [I am surprised], of course, but it is about the team and about 11 players, it’s a normal thing.

“They all know what they did and all these kinds of things. They have to make a decision of course and Mo has had an exceptional season.

“Especially if we would have played or could have played on a more consistent level. Then his numbers would be different and even better.

“I cannot have any influence over that [Team of the Year decision]. Is he sometimes underappreciated? I would say yes, but that is the world not to change.

“Other people make decisions about that. I am not sure it is the most important thing but does he deserve [to be included]? Yes.

“But I have no idea who is in that Team of the Year, so I don’t really say a lot about it.”
