Sergio Ramos
“Yesterday I had the opportunity to communicate it to him,” Luis Enrique said. “It was difficult and hard. I keep yesterday’s conversation private. It is not easy to convey something that is not positive for him.”
Sounds like Ramos took it well…
Dayot Upamecano
No place in the France squad for Bayern Munich’s new £40million centre-back, or Liverpool’s £36million one. Ridiculous.
Gianluca Mancini
The former Atalanta centre-back started the latest friendly for Italy, but now has a summer to prep for Jose Mourinho.
Sven Botman
The Dutch defender was a colossus for Lille having joined from Ajax last summer, starting 37 of 38 games as they sensationally pipped Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title. But even without Virgil van Dijk, the Netherlands are pretty well stocked there.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Manchester United’s undisputed first choice right-back faces the very real prospect of never playing for England.
Ricardo Pereira
Injury for the majority of the season has cost him his place. But a half-crocked Pereira is possibly still a better option than Nelson Semedo.
Borna Sosa
Croatian left-back Sosa said he wanted to play for Germany, but is ineligible, so will now play for neither Croatia or Germany.
Theo Hernandez
Yet to make his France debut, the AC Milan star has notched seven goals and six assists from left-back this season, after a similar return the season before. At 23, his time will come.

Houssem Aouar
Lyon’s Champions League hero of last season is a fine technician but is not as good as Moussa Sissoko.
Eduardo Camavinga
The 18-year-old scored an overhead kick on his France debut, has been described as a mix of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, but is not as good as Moussa Sissoko.
Jesse Lingard
Bukayo Saka is probably the man to have taken his place, with Gareth Southgate loving utility over goals. Or so we thought before Wednesday night.
Julian Draxler
It will never not be a surprise when he comes off the bench for Paris Saint-Germain having fallen into the Parc des Princes black hole. He joins fellow new Mesut Ozil, Julian Brandt, and former Mario Gotze, Mario Gotze, in watching from home.
Saul Niguez
Diego Simeone doesn’t really fancy him anymore and neither does Luis Enrique. Manchester United could well therefore spunk £60million on him.
James Ward-Prowse
Wouldn’t have played a minute of normal time. Would absolutely have been brought on to miss the crucial penalty.
Tanguy Ndombele
Gets the chance to see first-hand, on a daily basis, why he’s not as good as Moussa Sissoko.

Belgium’s defence, still hot dogging after Euro 2016, breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Watkins is saved the wrath of Leeds fans, who will now have to aim their Patrick Bamford indignation at a striker with exactly the same goals per minute ratio. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, you fraud.
Moise Kean
Uncapped Sassuolo striker Giacoma Raspadori – who has scored 13 fewer goals this season – has been selected in Kean’s stead, with the on-loan Everton striker handed the summer to ponder his future.
Steven Bergwijn
Aston Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi being more unfortunate to miss out is telling of Bergwijn’s struggles at Spurs.
Nabil Fekir
Played – albeit briefly – in all-but the semi-final of France’s World Cup-winning run in 2018. A brilliant footballer, of which France have an unreasonable number.
Mason Greenwood
He withdrew to recover from an underlying injury but surely wouldn’t have done that had Southgate been desperate to have him. World Cup 2022 will be the one.
Marco Reus
“After a very intense year for me personally and achieving my goals at BVB, I made the decision to give my body time to recover!” said Reus. We’re all tired, Marco.
Marco Asensio
Snubbed along with the likes of Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal after a difficult season. This will be the first time Spain have gone into a major tournament without a single Madrid representative.
