Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has emerged as a candidate to become the next head coach of England U21s, according to reports.
Lampard called time on his professional career in 2016 after just short of two years in the MLS with New York City.
The Chelsea legend was always clear that he wanted to become a manager and he took over at Derby County in May 2018.

The Rams brought in Chelsea youngsters Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan that summer and his first season as a manager proved to be a successful one.
After Derby knocked Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup earlier in the season, they went onto finish sixth in the Championship to earn a place in the play-offs.
Lampard’s side beat Leeds United 4-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals which booked them a place at Wembley against Aston Villa. But they would lose 2-1 to Dean Smith’s side.
The job Lampard did that year was rewarded as he replaced Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.
The Blues had a transfer ban during his first season so he was unable to sign any new players. But he was praised as he gave opportunities to the likes of Mount, Tomori and Reece James.
They lost 4-0 to Manchester United on the opening day of the Premier League season, but it proved to be a fruitful campaign on the whole.
Chelsea ended up finishing fourth in the top flight and they reached the FA Cup final.
Lampard was allowed to spend big last summer as they splashed out over £200m on new recruits. They started the campaign strongly as they sat top of the league in December. But a run of just two wins in eight games led to Lampard’s departure at the end of January.
The Daily Mail have reported that Lampard is being lined up as a replacement for Boothroyd. His contract with England runs out this summer.
Boothroyd is unlikely to be handed a new deal on the back of a dismal European Championship campaign. The Young Lions have lost their opening two group games to Switzerland and Portugal.
