Everton reportedly want to make Nuno Espirito Santo their new boss and will soon open talks with the 47-year-old.
The Toffees are without a manager following Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to rejoin Real Madrid.
The announcement came as a surprise to many as Ancelotti originally signed a long-term contract at Goodison Park. He was expected to fulfil his dream of getting them into the Champions League.

According to Sky Sports, Everton have been active in the hours since Ancelotti’s departure and want Nuno to take over.
The Portuguese is the favourite to fill the role and has strong support in the Everton boardroom.
Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, who became part of the club in February 2016, is a big admirer of Nuno’s success at Wolves.
He took charge at Molineux when they were in the Championship and soon engineered a return to the top flight.
The next two seasons brought plenty of success, as Wolves secured back-to-back seventh-place finishes.
In 2019/20, they reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League before being beaten by eventual champions Sevilla.
Moshiri hopes Nuno can bring similar results to Goodison Park as their wait for European football continues.
Even under Champions League winner Ancelotti, they failed to reach the top six.
Nuno isn’t the only manager to be linked with the vacant hot seat. Free agent Antonio Conte, fresh from a Serie A title triumph with Inter, is also an option.
But some have questioned their ability to bring in Conte. Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan said: “With respect to Conte, he is a serial winner, why does he need to take a project?
“What’s the project for him? What is he, a philanthropic? I really like Merseyside, I’d go to Everton and see what I can spin my wheels over there.
“He has just won Serie A with Inter. He causes chaos wherever he goes and he gets paid for it, but he wins.
“What’s he going to go to Everton for?”
Other reports hint David Moyes is in line for an Everton return. However, West Ham look set to shut down those rumours soon by announcing a new three-year deal for the Scotsman.
